Hello Europe & Beyond! Welcome to wonderful Florence, Italy :) Tonight is the 1st Semi Final of EM 32! How exciting is that? I'm completely buzzing for the results of this final and thought I would share a few friendly critics about some of the songs from this semi-final.! As you all know, there have been, for the first time ever in Eurovision Memories history, 3 semi-finals. And with only 7 qualifying countries from each semi-final, the competition is hotter than ever! ;) We had 16 beautiful countries participate, and here's the running order: 1. Netherlands Baskerville - "The Fuss" 2. Spain La Casa Azul - "Superguay" 3. Bulgaria Revoljuchija Z - "Аз искам" 4. Switzerland DJ Antoine ft. The Beat Shakers - "Ma Chérie" 5. Denmark Nadia Malm - "En Som Er Din" 6. Belgium SX - "Graffiti" 7. Kosovo Tuna ft. Cozman - "Fenix" 8. Poland Irena Santor - "Jeszcze jeden świt" 9. F.Y.R Macedonia Shpat Kasapi - "Medikament" 10. Ireland Walking On Cars - "Catch Me if you Can" 11. Romania ABCD - "Final de razboi" (End of War) 12. Croatia Lana Jurčević - "Nitko i ništa" 13. Lithuania Girmante Vaitkute - "Time to shine" 14. Portugal Kika - "Guess It's Alright" 15. Morroco Sofia Essaidi - "Femme D'Aujourdhui" 16. Luxembourg Fabian Buch - "When you're with me" An interesting mix of countries I think, with a few stand out entries, but there could be some surprises!! Tonight only 7 countries will advance to EM32 final!! The votes have been counted, and your fate sealed guys! But I think I can still share a few of my opinions on the songs :) 1. Netherlands Baskerville - "The Fuss" The Netherlands sends this unique sounding dance electro track called "The Fuss". I really appreciate the different direction of the Netherlands this edition, and the song may surprise and do well, connecting with a broad audience being creative. However, I personally don't find this track to stand out. It will either just miss qualification or pass to final around place 7. However we have been told to expect a surprising final - so who knows what could happen?! 2. Spain La Casa Azul - "Superguay" Spain is.. different is probably the best word to use. I'm all for retro/indie style music, but this is completely off the scale of retro for me! The band has a distinctive sound... but I found the song rather dull after a while. Like the Netherlands I really appreciate the different style from Spain, but I'm not this style of music will connect with the voters, and I am worried about the outcome of this entry! I'd predict lower side of the scoreboard - sorry! 3. Bulgaria Revoljuchija Z - "Аз искам" Bulgaria. Interesting. Nice pop song which can't harm and usually is what gets voted for on here. The video is a bit like watching a soap drama mixed with a music video :) One cannot complain though, as this is a strong nice entry from Bulgaria and a song which I have downloaded myself actually! I would strongly say It will sail to the final! Great effort Bulgaria! 4. Switzerland DJ Antoine ft. The Beat Shakers - "Ma Chérie" Winner of Semifinal 1. Yepp, I said it guys! Winner. Catching euro-dance song. This style always gets high scores. It's not something I would personally choose to listen to, as it is very David Guetta style or something I would hear on radio stations that is very popular. It's not my personal favourite, but will score high with voters. Predicting to go to final. 5. Denmark Nadia Malm - "En Som Er Din" Nice effort from Denmark. Quite a slow song, but I found htis song rather forgettable. Like songs like this, it will probably go to the final. I'm not predicting very high though. I think voters will like this song. Personally I found it slow and forgettable.... Nothing stand-out ! 6. Belgium SX - "Graffiti" Belgium. Well. First Impressions I was like "wow, great sounding indie song, my normal style, great". After a good 90 seconds, I was starting to get a little bored. Nothing standing out really. She's a little like Lana Del Ray (who I love) but without the extra special spark that makes her dull droaning music sound awesome. Personally I'd say non-qualifier. But what do I know? You guys may have loved this!! 7. Kosovo Tuna ft. Cozman - "Fenix" Slow R&B track that starts.. and doesn't really go anywhere. Compared to other entries though, I found this song a little better than others. Still nothing stand-out. I'd probably go out dancing to a song like this... but maybe not quite EM style. We've never had a winning song sounding like it. But who knows what could happen.?! Could Kosovo surprise us? 8. Poland Irena Santor - "Jeszcze jeden świt" Is this possibly the biggest and longest introduction to a song on Eurovision Memories history? Quite probably. I had to sit through 56 seconds of classical introduction music - not that I dont like classical music, but yes, a very long almost minute. I like how Poland have gone for a completely different style to usual, it's nice to hear lots of styles. No idea what could happen with this entry. It may be forgotten in this wacky semifinal! I personally would like it to go to final though. 9. F.Y.R Macedonia Shpat Kasapi - "Medikament" Ooh. What a wake up compared to the last rather slow ballad. A nice surprise in the midst of this rather slow semi-final. I'd say 100% going to final. Probably top 3 placing in the semi-final. The guy singing is rather nice also :) I found myself knowing some of the words of the song after a few listens, so very catchy :P 10. Ireland Walking On Cars - "Catch Me if you Can" How can I possibly critic myself? :P Well, as you know I haven't made the past few finals, so knowing my current losing streak is probably continuing. It's very much like the usual music Ireland sends, Indie pop bands, which have proved to recently be unpopular. I doubt this will pass to final. 11. Romania ABCD - "Final de razboi" (End of War) First few listens, I really didn't like this song. I didn't really "get" the talking/singing by the female at the beginning. HOW WRONG I WAS. WOWWIE. I love this song. It's literally my favourite now... and I can't believe how I disliked it earlier! I've downloaded this song and have played it lots recently. An easy pass to the final. Great work Romania! Loving this newer style from you! 12. Croatia Lana Jurčević - "Nitko i ništa" I think it was Croatia who did a similar entry about 6 or 7 editions before. But I like this style of music. I wasn't sure of this entry at first. It's likely to pass to final though :) Pretty song that really grows on you, and my current #2 rank in this semi ;) 13. Lithuania Girmante Vaitkute - "Time to shine" I wish we didn't have these National Final songs! But this is one of them from Lithuania. At first I thought.. not a very strong voice, and quite boring. But the chorus is actually quite pleasant to be honest. And it isn't half bad! I'd say around place 7-9. Either pass to final or second chance possibly? 14. Portugal Kika - "Guess It's Alright" I normally hate hate hate lyric videos... So if I don't watch the video, I like this song :P VERY different Portugal! Very very different! Not the typical folk/indie/ethic etc sound we hear from portugal. They have finally gone for a bit of pop - and in English, not something we hear often from portgual! I'd say 100% to final. Not particularly highly ranked for me... but it will score VERY well with others ;) 15. Morroco Sofia Essaidi - "Femme D'Aujourdhui" Interesting song from Morroco. Not sure if it will go to final though. I honestly think this will be our second chance song. So around placing 8th. It does remind me of "Lonely Lisa" entry from another country a long time ago and I liekd that entry! Not sure how this will fair with the mix of songs from this semi-final. It does grow on you though :) Great entry |Morroco! 16. Luxembourg Fabian Buch - "When you're with me" Can I say Wow. This guy is.. beautiful... Okay, and now to the song. Cute poppy entry ideal for Summer. I would definately listen to this over summer. It's a little like the band "Train", that had the huge hit's "Drive By?" Yes, well it's a great entry Luxembourg. Not my favourite from you though! I'd say around place 4th in the semi-final! So, that's my thoughts on the entries. I have zero influence on the votes though, and actually have NO idea what is going to happen tonight in the semi-final! What do you guys think? Here;s my official 7 "qualifiers" from my recent thoughts: 1. Romania 2. Croatia 3. FYR Macedonia 4. Luxembourg 5. Bulgaria 6. Switzerland 7. Portugal Coming in at 8th, and the second chance entry is: 8. Morocco And our "non-qualifiers" I think will be: 9. Denmark 10. Kosovo 11. Lithuania 12. Belgium 13. Netherlands 14. Spain 15. Poland 16. Ireland What do I know though guys? Nothing really!
I hope you all appreciate my critic here, and please no-one take the comments to be hurtful at all, it's just my opinions over 16 songs. I have a strange wacky music taste myself :) Good luck to everyone in Semi-final 1. May the best songs win ;) -- Britt xoxo (Ireland) x
