Romania will take part in the 2012 Eurovision Song Contest in Baku, Azerbaijan, according to Head of Entertainment at broadcaster TVR. Speaking to adevarul.ro, Dan Manoliu confirmed our report from yesterday that TVR is look to receive a budget of €200,000 for this year’s Song Contest.
€118,000 of that is the participation fee, with the remaining €82,000 set aside for a national selection, promotion of the song, and the cost of the delegation in Baku. Manoliu added that “TVR confirmed its Eurovision participation to the European Broadcasting Union on 24 November 2011″, but that a fee reduction had not been agreed as it “would create a precedent, and EBU would not have sufficient funds to organise the show properly”. Manoliu also gave a clear indication that TVR is looking to hold a national selection, stating that “Romania and any other participating countries have until 19 March 2012 to pick their entry, as that is when the heads of delegation meeting take place. I hope that composers should be prepared with songs (to enter) when we kick off Selection”. |
